Single Frame Project: February | Indianapolis Family Photographer

The goal of photographing your life in an intentional way every single day is a lofty one. I’m proud (and surprised, to be honest) to say that I’ve made it two whole months and haven’t lost steam yet. Well, there are two days of February that are unaccounted for. I know I photographed my family those two days, but I can’t seem to locate the photos. I’m thinking they’re lost somewhere on my computer. I just need to locate them. But the point is, I know I stuck to the plan those days. 🙂

2.6.17 I wish I could have asked Coralie to move a tad bit to her right here. But she’s two. And it’s a beautiful picture anyway, I think.

2.4.17 I’ve always loved my Grandma Carol’s hands. She would probably say I’m silly, but I love their cool, soft feel.

2.9.17 Our first kid, Howard.

2.22.17 Impromptu stop at the park on an abnormally warm February day!

2.3.17 Burning off some energy with Daddy.

2.17.17 This is where Dr. Kugar, the girls’ dentist, is telling them why it’s important to stop sucking thumbs and fingers. They were pretty much looking at her like she had three heads.

2.21.17 Can anyone relate? Checking your phone is the last item on the to-do list before bed. Sadly.

2.13.17 The girls love coming in to wake up Eddie in the mornings.

2.26.17 Jumping on your parents’ bed- is there anything better?

2.18.17 A lazy and happy Saturday afternoon spent at home.

2.20.17 While on maternity leave, there should be nothing on the schedule except taking care of that little baby.

I am hoping to keep up with the project through the next month, too. Wish me luck!

Single Frame Project: January | Indianapolis Family Photographer

Documenting the every-day every single day is a daunting task. So when I read about another photographer who completed a Single Frame Project last year, I thought, now I could do THAT. The idea is to snap a single frame, one click, each day, and no more. One click and it’s over, family documentary task done for the day. Time-wise it makes it easier, less stressful than lugging around a camera all day and feeling like I need to photograph all our happenings all day long. But it also makes me stop and think, plan each photograph a little more. I only get one frame. One frame to make an image that makes me remember sights, sounds, and feelings. Some days were better than others. So even though I have one photograph for each day, I only included the images for this first month’s blog post that I really liked. I did make it the entire month without missing a single day. That, in and of itself, is a huge win in my book!

1.4.17 Probably one of my favorite photographs of Coralie to date. Before Eddie came and we had the crib all set up, one of the girls often had to sleep in the extra bed in his room. Otherwise nap time became playtime with the girls in a room together and no one ever fell asleep. This is right after she woke up. Her two fingers still up from having them in her mouth while she slept.

A Fresh January Afternoon | Indianapolis Family Photographer

Even though this is Indiana, where we can never rule out any type of weather on any given day no matter the season, who would have thought I’d be shooting a session in January centered around fresh fruit, giggly girls in floral dresses and bright skies? I’ll take that combination for an in-home lifestyle session every time!

In 2017 I’m participating in a monthly blog feature with other talented photographers from around the country in which we present our own photographic and artistic take on a particular theme. This month I’m showcasing a special blog post focused on the idea of “Fresh.” My fresh perspective takes place on a particularly balmy, 60-degree afternoon here in Indianapolis. The Newlin family, about to start off on a new adventure opening a catering business, asked me to photograph their family doing what they love to do- spending time in the kitchen preparing fresh fruit and snacks and then sitting down to enjoy some quality time with one another. What a perfect way to make a FRESH start this new year!
