I know, I know, I’ve been saying this a lot lately. But I really do mean it with this one. This is my favorite outdoor family session to date. The parents, the boys, the horses, the sunrise, the light fog early on, the outfits, the new location- it could not have been better. Combine that with the fact that this family was pretty much game for anything (5am wake up call? Sure. Step around the road apples and through the much? Bring it on. Get up close and personal with a few new horse friends? Yes, please!) , and we made some dreamy photos.
Ashley is a fellow Indiana photographer, a fellow teacher, and a good friend. She was the first person, six years ago, who when I asked, told me, “Yes, call yourself a photographer. If you’re photographing families and you’re doing it well and you love it, you’re a photographer.” That stuck with me. It gave me the little boost of confidence I needed at the time. So here we are six years down the road, and I was feeling so lucky to be able to photograph her family. All the stars aligned for the perfect session.
If I had a day that I could give you, I’d give to you the day just like today.
If I had a song that I could sing for you, I’d sing a song to make you feel this way.
If I had a tale that I could tell you, I’d tell a tale sure to make you smile.
If I had a wish that I could wish for you, I’d make a wish for sunshine for all the while.
From “Sunshine On My Shoulders” by John Denver

Have you seen this Indianapolis family plastered all over my Instagram account? If you see what I see when looking through these images, you’ll know it’s for good reason! The soft golden light, the teeny little smiles, the doting dad. Not to mention the hair envy- Lissa’s golden locks! The Smiths were kind and genuine and I loved photographing their family.
Every session I shoot anymore always ends up in a game of six degrees. It seems I’m able to make connections with every Indianapolis family I meet; it almost never fails. I loved meeting Lissa, Joey, and their kids. We share a love of the midtown Indianapolis area, she lives close to my sister, and we have lots of mutual friends through her children’s preschool. We even share a passion for photography. As you scroll through these images, I hope you’re looking at them with the same googly eyes as me! Oh, and I’ve added a little fun fact about this family for you to find at the bottom…
Fun fact: Women love bearded men, right? A few months before this shoot, Joey’s beard was about SIX inches LONGER!
If you have a bearded husband (or a smooth-faced one, or a bald one, or a tall one, or a short one, or…) and are interested in booking a family photography session with me, please send me an email at tarastrohlphotography@yahoo.com or get in touch with me via my Contact page! I would love to meet you!

“I’ll share this love I find with everyone
We’ll sing and dance to Mother Nature’s songs
I don’t want this feeling to go away”
Walking onto the maternity floor of a hospital to photograph a Fresh 48 session is always a little nerve wracking. The hushed voices in the lobby and the hallways, the tired families awaiting news, the smell of hand sanitizer. Not to mention that you’re about to walk into a hospital room and invade a new mom’s privacy! But if there’s ever a moment I’d want documented (and my privacy invaded for), it’s those first few hours in the hospital after my newest baby is born. Most women only get to experience these fleeting moments a few times in their lives and then they’re gone. My hope is that when looking back on these photographs from Teddy’s Fresh 48 session, Devin will be able to relive those moments in a way that she wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. And if you can’t get enough of the King family, you can see more of them in Teddy’s lifestyle session blog post!
A Fresh 48 Session is an exciting time for everyone involved, and I would love to photograph more of them. I am happy to book a Fresh 48 session in and around Indianapolis any time of the year. If you or someone you know is interested in booking a session with me, please visit my Contact page or email me at tarastrohlphotography@yahoo.com.
